Since its establishment in 1927 ESB has been driven by an unwavering commitment to power society forward and deliver a net-zero future for the customers and the communities we serve. Our purpose is to continue to transform lives and enable social and economic progress and change.

We believe that electricity is a social good that should be accessible and affordable for all. We also believe in acting with integrity and transparency, protecting the world around us and creating an inclusive and flexible culture that protects and empowers people.

We are taking urgent and focused action to achieve net zero emissions by 2040. We are putting in place the infrastructure and services to enable our customers and society to live more sustainable and balancing this with our fundamental role to maintain reliable and affordable electricity for our customers, communities, and the economy.

As a strong, diversified utility, ESB operates across the electricity market, from generation through transmission and distribution, to supply of customers in addition to using our networks to carry fibre for telecommunications. As at year-end 2022, ESB has a regulated asset base of approximately €12.0 billion (comprising ESB Networks €9.7 billion and NIE Networks €2.3 billion), a 30% share of generation in the all-island market, and supply businesses supplying electricity and gas to over two million customer accounts throughout the island of Ireland and Great Britain. At June 2023, ESB Group employed almost 9,000 people.

Sustainability and Supply Chain

Through our businesses across Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain we aim to meet customer energy needs by bringing the best of our capabilities together to deliver innovative and value-driven solutions for a zero-carbon world.

We are committed to sustainability in all of our operations and therefore look to our supply chain partners to work with us as we turn our vision for a sustainable future into reality.

ESB aims to purchase goods, services and works that are produced, delivered and constructed with due regard to environmental and social considerations and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Why we have become a Partner of the School

We are stepping forward on social and environmental responsibility, cultivating a safe, sound, and sustainable ethos in line with our values.

We are proud to be a Founding Partner of the Supply Chain Sustainability School which we believe will play a key role in supporting our supply chain partners on our collective sustainability journey through the provision of tools, resources and learning materials.

“Sustainability is at the heart of all we do at ESB. We are proud to be a Founding Partner and active supporter of The Supply Chain Sustainability School. Collaboration and sharing of knowledge and expertise is critical as we aim to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2040 in a sustainable way. The School is opportunity for our own organisation, our contractors, suppliers and clients to collaborate on sustainability and environmental issues. We encourage all our partners to join the School and work together to lead the transition to a net zero energy future.”
